Uzbekistan to Modernize Water and Sewerage Systems

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan has adopted additional measures to improve its drinking water supply and sewerage systems. Presidential Decree No. UP-140 was signed on 24 July 2026.

From 1 September, all drinking water supply and sewerage infrastructure development projects transferred to Uzsuvtaminot JSC for operation will be recorded on the electronic platform “Automated Information System for Monitoring Programme Implementation and Approving Address Lists.”

To improve contractual relations between Uzsuvtaminot and its system enterprises, contracts in specialized areas related to professional development, training and operations will be concluded directly.

New drinking water supply and sewerage projects are planned to be implemented with loans and grants from international financial institutions and foreign state financial organizations. Various financing mechanisms, including advance and retroactive financing, will be used.

From 1 January 2027, in areas where centralized drinking water supply is economically inefficient or does not ensure cost recovery, services will be provided based on local conditions. These measures include delivering water by specialized vehicles, establishing water supply points and applying other solutions.

From the same date, authority to approve tariffs for drinking water supply and sewerage services will be transferred to the Interagency Tariff Commission under the Cabinet of Ministers. The decision is part of further efforts to improve tariff policy.
