Uzbekistan to Increase Fines for Expired Goods Sales
Uzbekistan to Increase Fines for Expired Goods Sales
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan has adopted in the first reading a draft law aimed at strengthening measures to prevent the sale of goods with expired shelf life, as well as products without mandatory labeling of production date and expiry date.
It is noted that current legislation already provides for liability for the sale of products subject to mandatory labeling but offered without the required information.
However, cases of selling goods without expiry date information continue to be recorded in trade practice, creating risks to consumer health.
In this regard, the draft law is aimed at strengthening consumer rights protection and ensuring stricter compliance with safety requirements for food products and other goods.
The document proposes amendments to Article 178 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility. In particular, it provides for an increase in administrative fines for the sale and distribution of expired products, as well as goods without mandatory labeling.
During the discussion, deputies noted the need for further refinement of certain provisions of the draft law and asked clarifying questions regarding the application of Article 178.
Following consideration, the draft law was supported by deputies and adopted in the first reading.
