Uzbekistan, South Korea Expand Interparliamentary Cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva held a meeting with the Chair of the Committee on Culture, Tourism and Sports of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and head of the Korea–Uzbekistan interparliamentary cooperation group Kim Gyo-heung.
During the talks, the sides discussed further strengthening the activities of interparliamentary cooperation groups, expanding interaction between relevant committees, and enhancing parliamentary oversight over the implementation of agreements reached at the highest level.
It was noted that relations of a special strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea have been developing consistently, with interparliamentary dialogue playing an important role in this process.
It was emphasized that visits by members of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea to Uzbekistan, as well as the third meeting of speakers of parliaments of Central Asian countries and the Republic of Korea, have elevated interparliamentary cooperation to a new level.
Special attention was given to the upcoming summit of heads of state of Central Asia and the Republic of Korea.
It was noted that this platform will create additional opportunities to strengthen the strategic partnership, promote mutually beneficial initiatives, and develop interparliamentary ties.
The role of representatives of the Korean diaspora living in Uzbekistan in strengthening friendship and cultural ties between the two countries was also discussed.
The sides exchanged views on the project of a museum dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Korean diaspora.
Following the meeting, the sides reached an agreement to further expand interparliamentary cooperation, develop interregional dialogue, and intensify interaction between youth and women parliamentarians.
