Uzbekistan Senate Rejects Amendments to Military Law

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis has considered amendments and additions to the Law “On Universal Military Duty and Military Service” at a plenary session and decided to reject the bill.

The draft law proposed introducing real-time information exchange on military service members and conscripts through an interagency integration platform, as well as improving the military registration system and introducing new military ranks for non-commissioned officers.

During discussions, senators, representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, and experts noted a number of provisions that, in their assessment, do not fully comply with the requirements of current legislation and established law enforcement practice.

Particular attention was paid to the need to revise certain norms related to the powers of state bodies, procedures for maintaining military records, mechanisms for interagency information exchange, and guarantees of citizens’ rights.

It was also emphasized that the draft law had not undergone sufficient analysis of necessary amendments to other regulatory legal acts that would need to be aligned with the new framework.

Senators said these shortcomings could negatively affect the stability of the legal system and create difficulties in law enforcement practice. Following the review, a resolution was adopted to reject the bill.
