Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A meeting of the joint Russian–Uzbek working group on personnel training for Uzbekistan’s nuclear industry was held on 21 April at the “Uzatom” agency.

The session was co-chaired by Azim Akhmedkhadzhayev, Director of the Agency for Atomic Energy of Uzbekistan, and Tatyana Terentyeva, Deputy Director General of the Russian state corporation Rosatom. During the meeting, the sides held a substantive exchange of views and noted the steady development of bilateral cooperation.

Participants emphasized that the formation of a national system for training specialists is a strategic priority within the framework of Uzbekistan’s nuclear power plant construction project.

The discussion focused on a draft country-level personnel training plan, as well as the development and phased implementation of joint educational programs.

These include modular and dual training at the vocational college in the Forish district of the Jizzakh region, the introduction of educational programs at the Tashkent branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI with participation of Russian instructors and practical internships, as well as a Train the Trainers program at the Rosatom Technical Academy.

Special attention was given to the implementation of the cooperation roadmap in nuclear and related fields signed in March 2026, where personnel training is defined as a key priority.

Azim Akhmedkhadzhayev noted that successful implementation of the nuclear power plant project requires not only engineering solutions and a regulatory framework, but also a sustainable multi-level system for training specialists focused on long-term development.

Tatyana Terentyeva stressed the importance of close cooperation with the Uzbek side, stating that joint efforts in building a national personnel training system create a foundation for the long-term development of nuclear energy in the country.

The parties expressed confidence that the agreements reached will contribute to the establishment of a modern training system necessary for the successful implementation of Uzbekistan’s nuclear power plant project.
