Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Competition Committee has launched a review of taxi aggregators following sharp fare increases during peak hours, technical disruptions and complaints from drivers. The committee is examining the justification for the higher fares and possible signs of unfair competition.
According to the committee, technical problems affecting major aggregators in recent days coincided with fares on competing services also rising several times during peak hours. The increases triggered dissatisfaction among users.
As part of the review, specialists will focus on the reasons behind the fare increases and compliance with competition law.
The committee has also issued a set of recommendations to taxi aggregators. It has proposed reviewing pricing algorithm settings to prevent sharp and artificial increases in fares, as well as resolving problems with transferring drivers’ earnings to their accounts.
The services have also been advised to unblock drivers whose accounts were suspended without justification, recalculate and pay all bonuses due for completed orders, and ensure that technical support services for both drivers and passengers operate around the clock without interruption.
The committee separately reminded market participants of their obligation to comply with Uzbekistan’s Law on Competition and refrain from unfair practices against competitors. This requirement applies both to businesses themselves and to other parties acting in their interests.
The agency stressed that market participants’ actions must not infringe on consumer interests and that the prices and quality of services should be based on fairness and transparency.
If the review identifies violations of competition law or consumer rights, the committee will conduct an investigation in accordance with established procedures and take the measures предусмотрed by law.
