Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A meeting of regional leaders from Uzbekistan and Russia was held in Ferghana as part of the third meeting of the Regional Councils of Uzbekistan and Russia, focusing on moving from agreements reached to the implementation of concrete projects.
The meeting was attended by Ferghana Region Governor Khairullo Bozorov, Krasnoyarsk Krai Governor Mikhail Kotyukov, as well as heads of a number of regions of Uzbekistan and Russia.
The participants discussed the development of interregional cooperation, the implementation of joint investment and cooperation projects, and improving the effectiveness of interaction mechanisms within the Regional Councils.
Khairullo Bozorov noted that the regions of the two countries have significant economic and investment potential, as well as accumulated experience of cooperation and numerous agreements.
According to him, at this stage, the focus should be placed not only on presenting the regions’ opportunities but, above all, on their practical implementation and achieving concrete results.
Particular attention was paid to developing the Regional Councils as a permanent mechanism for interaction, reducing the period between agreements reached at the level of regional leaders and the launch of specific projects, and making fuller use of existing opportunities for interregional cooperation.
The heads of Russian regions stressed the need to expand direct contacts, involve business representatives more actively in joint initiatives, develop industrial cooperation and implement mutually beneficial projects.
The participants noted that the necessary mechanisms and opportunities are in place to further expand interaction between the regions of the two countries. Key priorities include systematically implementing agreements reached, turning promising initiatives into concrete projects and accelerating their launch.
Following the meeting, the sides agreed to continue work on filling interregional cooperation with new practical projects and initiatives.
