Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A joint seminar of the European and North Atlantic Office of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and ACI EUROPE on environmental issues in aviation opened in Tashkent on 7 October.
The event is being held with the support of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport and will run through 9 October. Uzbekistan Airports reported this.
The seminar brings together representatives of international aviation organizations, airports, aircraft manufacturers and financial institutions.
Participants include ACI EUROPE Director General Olivier Jankovec, who is visiting Uzbekistan for the first time. Uzbekistan Airports is a member of the international airport organization.
The main topics of the event include reducing carbon emissions, introducing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), financing environmental projects, improving energy efficiency and adapting airport infrastructure to climate change.
Participants are also discussing innovative technologies and the implementation of “green airport” principles.
Separate sessions are dedicated to carbon accreditation and sustainable operations.
As part of the seminar, Uzbekistan Airports received a certificate under the international Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) programme, confirming the accreditation of nine company airports.
The airports of Samarkand, Urgench, Namangan, Ferghana, Nukus, Termez, Karshi and Navoi received Level 1 accreditation. This level confirms the measurement and independent verification of operational carbon emissions.
Tashkent International Airport achieved Level 2 by implementing measures to reduce its carbon footprint. According to the data presented, it became the first airport in Central Asia to reach the second level under the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme.
During the seminar, representatives of Uzbekistan Airports will present the company’s initiatives to support the introduction of SAF and participate in discussions on carbon accreditation, sustainable operations and airport infrastructure development.
The company will also take part in the final discussion on the prospects for environmentally sustainable aviation and the presentation of ACI EUROPE’s new strategy for sustainable airport development.
