Uzbekistan Reviews Human Rights Rule of Law Project

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A meeting was held at the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan dedicated to the implementation of the international project “Strengthening the Rule of Law and Protection of Human Rights in Uzbekistan.” The initiative is being implemented with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.

The discussion was attended by Deputy Minister of Justice Muzraf Ikramov, representative of the Finnish Foreign Ministry Katja Hirvonen, Deputy Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Bekzod Narimanov, as well as representatives of state bodies, non-governmental organizations, and project beneficiaries.

The participants reviewed achieved results, including the development of the free legal aid system, increased legal awareness among the population, and measures supporting socially vulnerable groups. It was separately noted that more than two million citizens have used free legal aid mechanisms in recent years, and a number of regulatory legal acts have been adopted to improve this system.

Within the framework of the project, seminars, trainings, round tables, and international conferences are regularly held, aimed at raising legal culture and strengthening legal protection institutions. Participants also discussed the outcomes of small grant programs, focusing on the development of primary legal assistance for women and persons with disabilities, as well as existing challenges in this area.

It was noted that the implementation of the project plays an important role in strengthening the rule of law in the country, developing human rights protection systems, and improving access to legal assistance for different segments of the population.
