Uzbekistan Retail Trade Turnover Surges 20.7 Percent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Retail trade turnover in Uzbekistan reached 210,243.1 billion soums during January–May 2026, marking a 20.7 percent increase in real terms compared to the same period last year, according to the National Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics.
As of 1 June 2026, there were 88,686 retail trade enterprises operating in the country, including 439 large enterprises and 88,247 small businesses and microfirms. The turnover of large enterprises reached 38,880.6 billion soums with a growth rate of 125.6 percent, while small businesses and private entrepreneurship generated 143,386.8 billion soums, representing an 18.0 percent increase.
Among regions, the highest retail trade growth rates were recorded in Tashkent city at 133.0 percent, the Republic of Karakalpakstan at 132.1 percent, and Syrdarya region at 127.2 percent. The lowest growth rates were recorded in Kashkadarya region at 108.0 percent and Tashkent region at 108.8 percent.
Small business and private entrepreneurship continue to dominate the structure of retail trade turnover, though their total share changed from 82.2 percent in 2025 to 81.5 percent in 2026, while the share of large organizations rose from 17.8 percent to 18.5 percent.
Wholesale trade turnover in January–May 2026 amounted to 209,361.2 billion soums, increasing by 15.4 percent in real terms from 172,044.5 billion soums in 2025. The number of wholesale trade enterprises reached 55,216 by 1 June, consisting of 452 large enterprises and 54,764 small enterprises and microfirms.
The turnover of large enterprises in wholesale trade reached 68,203.2 billion soums, up 28.2 percent, while small enterprises generated 141,158.0 billion soums, up 10.1 percent. Small business accounted for 67.4 percent of the country's total wholesale trade volume.
The highest regional growth rates for wholesale trade were recorded in Navoi region at 119.7 percent, Ferghana region at 119.7 percent, and Kashkadarya region at 118.6 percent. The lowest growth rates were noted in Namangan and Jizzakh regions at 106.6 percent each.
Turnover for food service enterprises in January–May 2026 reached 94,441.1 billion soums, marking an 11.1 percent increase in real terms. At the start of June, 28,483 enterprises operated in this sector, including 149 large businesses and 28,334 small and micro-enterprises. Small businesses accounted for 75.5 percent of the food service turnover, while large enterprises held a 24.5 percent share.
