Uzbekistan Registers Chust Pilaf as Geographical Indication
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan has officially registered “Chust pilaf” as a geographical indication, according to the ministry’s press service.
The legal status закрепs the unique characteristics, preparation method, and territorial origin of the well-known dish at the state level.
It is specified that traditional Chust pilaf is prepared exclusively outdoors, over high heat, and in authentic aluminum cauldrons.
The regulator provided detailed descriptions of the protected gastronomic brand’s technological features. Its distinctive golden-brown color is achieved naturally, without artificial coloring or additives, solely through the specific frying of meat on the bone and onions at high temperatures.
The Ministry of Justice stated that official recognition of this culinary tradition will have a long-term positive effect on the development of domestic and inbound gastronomic tourism, support local entrepreneurship in the Namangan region, and further promote Uzbek national culture internationally.
The introduction of geographical indication status provides full legal protection of the brand against counterfeiting and unfair competition. From now on, the name “Chust pilaf” may only be used by producers who strictly comply with the historically established recipe and standards.
The ministry added that this step guarantees consumers consistent quality and preserves the authenticity of Uzbek culinary traditions.
