Tunnel Leading Toward Uzbekistan Discovered in Kyrgyzstan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Law enforcement agencies in the Batken Region of Kyrgyzstan have discovered an underground tunnel that, according to preliminary data, may have been used for the illegal movement of goods across the Kyrgyz-Uzbek state border.

According to the Internal Affairs Department of the Batken Region, officers from the service for countering extremism and illegal migration received operational information regarding the construction of an underground passage in the border zone.

During an inspection in an abandoned house located in the village of Chechelik, Iskhak-Polotkhan rural council, Kadamjay District, a tunnel leading toward the territory of Uzbekistan was discovered.

According to law enforcement agencies, the underground structure is approximately 12 meters deep and about 1.5 meters wide.

A pre-investigation check is currently underway. Investigative bodies are establishing all the circumstances of the incident, as well as the individuals involved in the construction and potential use of the tunnel.

According to law enforcement agencies' preliminary theory, the underground passage may have been used for the illegal movement of goods across the state border.
