Uzbekistan Regional GDP 2026: Leaders and Laggards

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The National Statistics Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan has published preliminary data on the gross regional product (GRP) of all administrative-territorial units for the first quarter of 2026.

The country’s total GDP amounted to 447,935.3 billion sums, increasing by 8.7% compared to the same period last year. In January–March 2025, growth was more modest at 6.8%.

The economic center of the country remains the capital. The city of Tashkent accounted for 21.1% of total GDP, generating 94,510.1 billion sums and posting a growth rate of 13.0%, one of the highest among all regions.

Navoi region ranked second with an 11.7% share of GDP and a volume of 52,553.1 billion sums, although its growth rate was 6.1%, the lowest in the country.

Tashkent region held third place with a 9.7% share and output of 43,243.1 billion sums. The smallest contributions came from Syrdarya (1.7%) and Jizzakh (2.5%) regions.

In terms of growth dynamics, the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the city of Tashkent recorded the highest rates at 12.9% and 13.0% respectively.

Khorezm and Fergana regions also showed strong performance, growing by 10.6% and 10.4%. Despite its large industrial base, Navoi region posted the weakest growth among all regions.

Sectoral analysis shows significant structural differences across regions. Industry dominates Navoi region, accounting for 84.1% of its GRP, driven by mining and metallurgy. In Tashkent region, industry accounts for 49.1%.

The services sector is dominant in the capital, where it represents 70.9% of value added, as well as in Namangan region at 60.3%. Agriculture plays a key role in Jizzakh (23.7%) and Surkhandarya (22.8%) regions. Construction is most prominent in Karakalpakstan (11.0%) and Bukhara region (10.8%).

Construction was the fastest-growing sector nationwide, expanding by 15.0%, with Karakalpakstan recording a record increase of 70.0%. Industry grew by 8.0%, services by 8.8%, and agriculture, forestry and fisheries by 5.1%.

Significant disparities are observed in GDP per capita. Navoi region leads with 47,196.3 thousand sums per person, nearly four times higher than Tashkent city, which ranks second with 29,654.9 thousand sums. Tashkent region follows with 13,651.7 thousand sums.

The lowest per capita GDP was recorded in Surkhandarya (4,445.3 thousand sums) and Kashkadarya (5,248.6 thousand sums). The national average stood at 11,692.5 thousand sums, growing by 6.7%.

Small business plays a major role across most regions, accounting for 45.6% of total value added nationwide. Its share is highest in Surkhandarya (72.9%), Fergana (71.5%), and Namangan (68.0%) regions.

In contrast, Navoi region shows the lowest share of small business at 12.9%, reflecting its heavy reliance on large-scale industry. In Tashkent region, the figure stands at 47.6%.
