Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan plans to begin gradually introducing bicycle-sharing stations near major public transport stops and high-traffic passenger areas from 1 September 2027, under a draft presidential resolution outlining the country's local passenger transport development strategy through 2030.
According to the draft document, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regional administrations and the Tashkent city administration would be responsible for organising bicycle rental services.
The initiative aims to improve last-mile connectivity by allowing passengers to use bicycles for short journeys between public transport stops and their final destinations.
Authorities intend to address the so-called last-mile problem, which refers to the final section of a journey between a public transport stop and a passenger's destination.
However, an annex to the draft resolution notes that a location-specific list of planned bicycle rental stations has not yet been prepared.
The document also acknowledges that infrastructure supporting last-mile connections around transport facilities remains insufficiently developed.
