Uzbekistan pays 73.7 billion soums in energy subsidies

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Uzbekistan, low-income families received 73.7 billion soums in compensation for electricity and natural gas consumption during the heating season, according to the Ministry of Energy.

The support mechanism is implemented in line with Presidential Decree No. PQ-134 dated April 2, 2025.

The document provides compensation for part of electricity expenses above the basic threshold of up to 150 kWh per month, as well as natural gas consumption up to 250 cubic meters. The compensation covers the difference between base tariffs and the cost of consumption above the established social norms.

An analysis of more than 1.3 million applications for electricity compensation shows that 64.9 percent of households consume up to 200 kWh within the social norm. Another 19.7 percent consume between 200 and 350 kWh, while 15.4 percent exceed 350 kWh.

Separate data from 362,800 households using natural gas indicate that 79.4 percent consume up to 500 cubic meters within the social norm. A further 14 percent consume between 500 and 700 cubic meters, while 6.6 percent exceed 700 cubic meters.

According to the current regulation, the compensation program will remain in effect until April 1, 2027.
