Uzbekistan, Norway launch three-year nuclear safety project
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kingdom of Norway have officially commenced the practical implementation of a new joint project scheduled for a three-year period.
According to the Dunyo Information Agency, this interstate initiative is entirely aimed at modernizing and improving the national regulatory and legal framework governing the field of radiation and nuclear safety.
Funding for the large-scale program is provided under the approved Norwegian Nuclear Action Plan. From the Uzbek side, the key implementers and beneficiaries of the project are the Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety under the Cabinet of Ministers, as well as its specialized authorized structure, the Scientific and Technical Center for Radiation and Nuclear Safety. The main volume of joint work will focus on preparing relevant national regulatory documents, reforming the state regulation system in the nuclear energy sector, and thoroughly studying and practically adapting advanced European and global experience.
According to official data from the Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA), a high-level Norwegian delegation visited Tashkent as part of the official launch of the project.
During the working visit, the European specialists held a series of extensive meetings with the leadership of relevant ministries and agencies of Uzbekistan. The participants of the talks discussed the strategic goals of the project in detail, approved the schedule for performing practical tasks, and outlined priority steps designed to significantly increase the level of protection and strengthen the national capacity of the republic in the field of radiation control.
