Uzbekistan Launches “Global Cinema Weekend” to Boost Film Industry and Tourism
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has launched a new international platform called Global Cinema Weekend, aimed at developing the country’s film industry and strengthening cinema tourism as part of its creative economy strategy.
The initiative was introduced through a memorandum of cooperation signed between the National PR Center under the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan and Global Tech Weekend Tashkent 2026.
The project will take place within the framework of Global Tech Weekend Tashkent on 15–17 May 2026 and is designed to bring together government representatives, film industry professionals, and members of the international creative community.
Global Cinema Weekend is intended to serve as a networking platform connecting foreign producers, directors, and investors with local industry participants. Its main goal is to promote Uzbekistan as a filming destination and integrate the country into the global cinema industry.
A key focus of the initiative is the development of cinema tourism, where films and visual media increase interest in real locations and drive tourist inflows. The program also envisions cooperation with major international studios, including Hollywood companies, and expanded professional exchange.
Officials highlighted that Uzbekistan has significant potential for film production due to its historical locations and developing infrastructure, which can attract international projects.
The initiative is supported by state incentives for the film industry, including cash rebate programs designed to encourage foreign productions to film in the country.
Authorities expect the platform to increase foreign investment, improve industry standards, and create new opportunities for collaboration in content production.
