Uzbekistan Industrial Production Rises 7.9% in Five Months

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The volume of industrial production in Uzbekistan for January-May 2026 amounted to 505.9 trillion soums in current prices, representing a 7.9% increase compared to the same period last year, the National Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Statistics reported.

As of 1 June 2026, there were 62,000 active industrial enterprises in the country. The largest number of enterprises was in food production, accounting for 12,400 or 20.0% of the total, followed by the manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products at 8,700 (14.0%), and apparel manufacturing at 6,200 (10.1%).

These were followed by the manufacture of fabricated metal products at 5,100 (8.2%), furniture manufacturing at 4,300 (6.9%), textile manufacturing at 3,800 (6.1%), and the manufacture of rubber and plastic products at 2,900 (4.7%).

Among the regions, the highest volume of industrial production was recorded in Navoi region at 128,500.2 billion soums, with a physical volume index of 105.2%. Tashkent city followed at 81,663.0 billion soums (107.3%), and Tashkent region reached 80,029.6 billion soums (107.9%). Andijan region also showed notable volumes, reaching 44,049.7 billion soums with a growth rate of 109.3%. Meanwhile, the highest growth rates in physical production volume among the regions were registered in Jizzakh region at 112.1%, Samarkand region at 109.5%, and Andijan region at 109.3%, outperforming the national average index of 107.9%.

Per capita industrial production across the republic stood at 13.2 million soums, compared to 10.0 million soums a year earlier. Above-average figures were recorded in Navoi region at 115.4 million soums, Tashkent city at 25.6 million soums, and Tashkent region at 25.3 million soums. The national growth rate for this indicator was 105.9%, with Jizzakh region reaching 110.0%, Samarkand region at 107.5%, and Andijan region at 107.4%, exceeding the countrywide level.

In the structure of industrial production by type of activity, the main share was held by the manufacturing industry, which accounted for 86.2% or 436.2 trillion soums, with a physical volume growth rate of 108.6%. Mining and quarrying accounted for 34.7 trillion soums (6.9%) with a growth rate of 106.3%; electricity and gas supply stood at 32.4 trillion soums (6.4%) with a growth rate of 103.7%; and water supply, sewerage, and waste management accounted for 2.7 trillion soums (0.5%) with a growth rate of 107.7%.

Within the manufacturing industry, the production of food products, beverages, and tobacco products accounted for 16.2%. The production of engineering complex goods—comprising fabricated metal products, machinery and equipment, motor vehicles, and associated repair work—also accounted for 16.2%. Textiles, apparel, and leather products comprised 14.2%, while chemical products, rubber, and plastic products made up 6.4%.

During the reporting period, the republic produced 15.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas, compared to 18.4 billion cubic meters a year earlier. Production also included 261,900 tonnes of oil (270,800 tonnes last year), 1.6 million tonnes of coal (2.5 million tonnes a year earlier), 502,200 tonnes of motor gasoline, 476,400 tonnes of diesel fuel, 8.2 million tonnes of Portland cement (up from 7.8 million tonnes), 317,100 tonnes of yarn, and 630,400 tonnes of flour made from soft wheat and spelt.

The production of automotive engines reached 103,293 units, compared to 94,257 units a year earlier. A total of 190,480 passenger cars were produced, up from 171,211 units, alongside 2,413 trucks, up from 1,873 units. Among passenger car models, the Cobalt led with 69,302 units (up from 58,904), followed by the Damas with 35,269 units (down from 38,753). Production of BYD models increased noticeably to 10,120 units against 5,495 units a year earlier, and Haval production rose to 4,038 units compared to 2,930 units. The production of specialized vehicles grew to 23,791 units from 17,397 units.

Electricity production for January-May 2026 reached 36,167.3 million kWh, an increase of 3.1% compared to last year. At the same time, generation by large enterprises decreased to 24,812.5 million kWh from 26,316.5 million kWh a year earlier, while generation by small businesses increased to 11,354.8 million kWh from 8,747.7 million kWh, reflecting an expanding role for small businesses in energy production.

The production of thermal energy by large enterprises decreased by 17.4% to 8,429.8 thousand Gcal. In 2026, no gas was produced via underground coal gasification.

In the water supply, sewerage, and waste management section, the volume of wastewater removal and treatment services grew by 12.8% to 308.4 billion soums, while cesspool and septic tank cleaning services increased to 172.6 million soums. The generation of textile waste decreased by 0.6% to 10,300 tonnes.
