Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and China are expanding cooperation in ophthalmology through joint surgical operations and professional knowledge exchanges between specialists, the press service of the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan said.

As part of the sixth installment of the "Give Light and Kindness" initiative, medical personnel plan to restore the vision of 150 patients. The opening ceremony took place at the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Eye Microsurgery. The initiative is being conducted with Chinese participation under the developing medical framework between the two nations.

During the ceremony, Elmira Basitkhanova, an advisor to the Minister of Health of Uzbekistan, presented Zhang Xunping, head of the Chinese company Asia-Europe International Materials Trading Center, with the "Excellent Worker of Healthcare of the Republic of Uzbekistan" badge.

Since 2019, under the Belt and Road initiative, cooperation with Chinese hospitals and companies has provided surgical assistance to more than 4,000 socially vulnerable Uzbek citizens suffering from cataracts.

The ongoing partnership between Uzbek and Chinese ophthalmologists includes regular exchanges of experience regarding modern diagnostic and treatment methods alongside joint surgical operations.

The press service of the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan said it will present a video report on the initiative in the near future.
