Uzbekistan Boxing Team Returns After Record Asian Triumph
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan's national boxing team received a ceremonial welcome in Tashkent after its successful performance at the Asian U19 and U23 Boxing Championships held in Jakarta.
The Uzbek team, comprising 38 athletes, won 21 gold, six silver and six bronze medals. The result set a championship record and reaffirmed Uzbekistan's leading position in Asian boxing.
The welcoming ceremony took place at Islam Karimov Tashkent International Airport. Champions, medalists, their coaches and family members were greeted by representatives of the sporting community and the media.
Among those attending the ceremony were Deputy Minister of Sports Shahrillo Makhmudov, Head of the High-Performance Sports Development Centre under the Ministry of Defence Mansur Mamadaminov, Deputy Chairman of the Uzbekistan Boxing Federation Saken Polatov, and the federation's Secretary General Shohid Tillaboev.
Speaking at the ceremony, representatives of the country's sports organisations congratulated the athletes and coaching staff on their performance. They said the result reflected the high standard of preparation of Uzbekistan's boxers, the effectiveness of the country's athlete development system and the successful work being carried out with young talent.
