Uzbekistan Approves 1.6 Trillion Soum Cemetery Improvement Program

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The government of Uzbekistan has approved a cemetery improvement program for 2027–2029 with total funding of 1.6 trillion soums. The relevant resolution was adopted on 21 May 2026, based on instructions from the head of state.

The document provides for improvement works at more than 10,000 existing cemeteries across the country.

Within the framework of the program, construction and repair of infrastructure facilities are planned, as well as modernization of burial site territories.

According to the resolution, financing will be provided from several sources. The construction and repair of cemetery fences, as well as the installation and renovation of entrance gates, will be funded by local budgets.

Construction and repair of buildings, structures, roads, and pedestrian paths within cemetery areas will be financed through funds accumulated on separate individual accounts of each cemetery, as well as through charitable donations, sponsorship contributions, and other sources not prohibited by law.

It is noted that separate accounts will be opened for each cemetery to receive charitable funds.

Previously, such funds were accumulated in a single district-level account, which made it difficult to monitor their use.

In addition, QR codes will be introduced into the financing system, allowing voluntary donations from individuals and legal entities to be directed directly to the needs of a specific cemetery.

The funds will be used exclusively for maintenance, improvement, and landscaping of the respective cemetery and cannot be reallocated for other purposes.
