Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Interior Ministry has appointed Colonel Timur Ismailov as first deputy interior minister and head of the Public Security Department, while Colonel Sardor Mirzaraimov has been appointed head of the Syrdarya Region Department of Internal Affairs, the ministry’s press service said.

Ismailov replaces Rustam Juraev, who became head of Uzbekistan’s State Security Service of the President in July 2026. Before his new appointment, Ismailov headed the Department of Internal Affairs of Surkhandarya Region.

Mirzaraimov previously served as deputy head of the Interior Ministry’s Criminal Investigation Department and head of its criminal investigation service.

The previous head of the Syrdarya Region Department of Internal Affairs, Farrukh Khaydarov, was dismissed from his post the day before. He had headed the regional department since March 2025.

The appointments came as the Interior Ministry reviewed measures to strengthen security in mahallas and improve the effectiveness of early crime prevention. At a ministry meeting, officials critically assessed implementation of the relevant presidential resolution and the results of work in this area.

Based on an analysis of crime in Syrdarya Region, the new head of the regional Interior Department was tasked with further stabilizing the crime situation, combating crime and turning mahallas into areas free of crime.

The ministry leadership also called for stronger targeted work with citizens’ appeals, higher public satisfaction, identification of existing problems and their systematic resolution.

Similar tasks were assigned to the heads of district and city departments of internal affairs in the region.
