Uzbek Citizen Deported from Japan for Visa Violation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Japan’s Immigration Services Agency has deported an Uzbek citizen who was illegally staying in the country after overstaying a short-term visa, the Embassy of Japan in Uzbekistan said.
The citizen entered Japan on a short-term visa but remained in the country after its validity expired and was subsequently detained by Japanese authorities.
The embassy said that people found to be staying or working illegally in Japan may face strict measures, including detention or arrest by police, placement in an immigration detention centre and deportation.
The Japanese government provides information on immigration violations to the Uzbek government, meaning that violators may also face relevant measures after returning to Uzbekistan, the embassy said. It urged Uzbek citizens to exercise extreme caution and not to trust offers claiming that they can work in Japan.
The embassy also rejected what it described as a widespread misconception that applying for refugee status in Japan allows a person to remain in the country or work there for an extended period.
Such an application cannot be submitted for that purpose, the embassy said. If an application for refugee status is rejected, the applicant may be placed in an immigration detention centre or deported.
Providing false information or using fraudulent methods when submitting a refugee status application may result in serious legal consequences, the embassy said.
