Uzbekistan and UNODC Discuss Stronger Drug Crime Fight

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A meeting between Uzbekistan’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Lieutenant General Aziz Tashpulatov, and Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Bo Mathiasen took place in Samarkand within the framework of the global forum “Combating Transnational Drug Threats for Public Health and Security.”

The parties discussed prospects for further developing cooperation in law enforcement, including efforts to counter illicit drug trafficking, strengthen measures against transnational organized crime, and expand international exchange of expertise.

The UNODC representative briefed participants on ongoing international initiatives implemented by the organization and confirmed readiness to strengthen cooperation with Uzbekistan. The importance of joint projects aimed at enhancing regional security and preventing drug-related crime was emphasized.

The Uzbek side presented ongoing domestic reforms in crime prevention and law enforcement, highlighting the importance of expanding cooperation with international institutions.

Following the talks, both sides agreed to continue constructive engagement and work on new joint initiatives.
