Uzbekistan and Serbia Strengthen Parliamentary Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva held a meeting with Aleksandar Marković, Chairman of the Serbia–Uzbekistan Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

During the talks, the sides noted that cooperation between Uzbekistan and Serbia continues to develop steadily thanks to the trusting relationship between the leaders of the two countries, while interparliamentary dialogue has become an important factor in further strengthening bilateral ties.

It was emphasized that cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries has intensified significantly in recent years. Regular contacts are maintained both bilaterally and within international parliamentary organizations, contributing to broader cooperation across a wide range of issues.

Particular attention was paid to the results of the official visit of the Uzbek parliamentary delegation led by the Chairperson of the Senate to Serbia in early June this year. During the visit, meetings were held with the President of Serbia, the Speaker of the National Assembly, and the Deputy Prime Minister of the country.

The sides highly valued the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, noting that it has created a solid legal foundation for further development of interparliamentary cooperation.

The important role of parliamentary friendship groups as an effective mechanism for strengthening bilateral relations was also highlighted. In this context, the parties discussed preparations for a separate roadmap for cooperation between relevant parliamentary bodies of the two countries.

The meeting also reviewed the implementation of agreements reached at the highest level, as well as coordination of legislative support for joint initiatives and projects.

Particular attention was given to public governance and interaction between the state and citizens. The Serbian side highly praised Uzbekistan’s experience in developing the mahalla institution, which plays an important role in addressing social issues, providing targeted support to the population, and strengthening community dialogue at the local level.

Following the talks, the sides reaffirmed their readiness to continue mutual support within international parliamentary organizations and expressed interest in expanding cooperation through youth parliamentary diplomacy.

In this regard, representatives of the Serbian parliament were invited to participate in the 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which will be held in Samarkand from 4–6 September 2026.
