Uzbekistan and Hyundai Rotem discuss rail modernization

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A working meeting was held on April 21 involving Chief Engineer of JSC “Uzbekiston Temir Yullari” Sharofiddin Kadyrov and representatives of Hyundai Rotem and Saman Corporation. The talks focused on assessing the current state of the country’s railway infrastructure and implementing modernization projects.

The work is being carried out in line with Presidential Resolution No. PQ–391 dated December 27, 2025, which outlines comprehensive measures through 2030 to increase passenger transport volumes on domestic routes and expand access to modern railway services across regions.

Key priorities include the modernization of the Angren–Pop and Toshguzar–Boysun–Kumkurgan railway sections. As a result, high-speed electric train services are expected to be launched to the Andijan, Namangan, Fergana, and Surkhandarya regions.

As part of the cooperation, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Hyundai Rotem, the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan, and JSC “Uzbekiston Temir Yullari.”

In addition, the national railway operator signed a contract for the supply of Hyundai Rotem electric trains. The document was signed during the visit of the President of the Republic of Korea to Uzbekistan, which began on June 13, 2024.

The first next-generation train for the country’s high-speed railway network, named “Jaloliddin Manguberdi,” has already been manufactured and delivered to Uzbekistan. The delivery was carried out under the agreement signed between “Uzbekiston Temir Yullari” and Hyundai Rotem in June 2024.
