Uzbekistan and Egypt Hold Civilization Dialogue in Cairo
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan and Egypt convened at one of the world's most storied cultural venues on Monday to affirm a shared civilizational identity that predates both modern states by centuries.
The event, titled "Uzbekistan–Egypt: Dialogue of Civilizations and Heritage," was held at the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo and attended by Uzbekistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakhtiyor Saidov, alongside senior Egyptian religious, academic, and cultural figures.
Central to the proceedings was a presentation of Uzbekistan's Center of Islamic Civilization, which organizers described as an emerging international platform for strengthening dialogue between peoples and civilizations.
Both sides highlighted the deep ties binding the two nations — a shared spiritual heritage, centuries-old traditions of scholarship and enlightenment, and common civilizational values. Particular recognition was given to the contributions of great Islamic scholars and to the role of manuscript culture in advancing Islamic science and learning.
The agenda focused on several concrete priorities: the preservation of cultural heritage, the advancement of academic research, the digitization of ancient manuscripts, and the promotion of ideas rooted in enlightenment and tolerance.
The event drew participation from the leadership of Al-Azhar and Dar al-Ifta — two of the Islamic world's most authoritative religious institutions — as well as representatives from Egypt's broader scientific and cultural communities. Organizers expressed formal gratitude to Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathi for his support in facilitating the gathering.
The meeting signals a deepening of cultural diplomacy between Tashkent and Cairo, with both countries positioning their shared Islamic intellectual legacy as a foundation for contemporary bilateral engagement.
