Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Egypt have discussed expanding scientific cooperation in agriculture, exchanging expertise and implementing joint agricultural projects, the Ferghana regional administration said.

Ferghana Region Governor Khayrullo Bozorov met with a delegation of scientists from the Horticultural Research Institute of Egypt’s Agricultural Research Center (ARC), led by Ahmed Gamea.

The talks focused on opportunities to introduce modern agricultural technologies, expand scientific exchanges and strengthen cooperation between research institutions in the two countries.

Gamea outlined the ARC’s main areas of activity, including developing new crop varieties, advancing farming methods, processing food products and improving the efficiency of land and water resource use.

Particular attention was given to the practical application of scientific research, closer cooperation between research institutes and laboratories, and the introduction of modern technologies on farms.

The participants also discussed prospects for cooperation with the Uzagrostar holding and the joint implementation of agricultural projects.

Bozorov recalled Ferghana’s historical ties with Egypt, including those associated with the scientific legacy of Ahmad al-Farghani.

The 9th-century scholar took part in the construction of a nilometer, a structure used to measure the water level of the Nile. The instrument played a role in monitoring water resources and planning agricultural activities.

Following the meeting, the two sides identified priority areas for further cooperation in agriculture.
