Uzbekistan and BASF Discuss Chemical Production Localization

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan is considering the localization of chemical products and technological solutions from German company BASF for the mining and metallurgical industries. A working meeting with representatives of BASF Central Asia was held at the Agency for Industrial Cooperation and Public Procurement.

The talks focused on producing flotation reagents, specialty chemicals and auxiliary materials used in the mining and metallurgical industries at local enterprises.

The participants discussed the potential of local raw materials and existing production capacities, as well as the possibility of transferring technologies. Several production models are being considered, including direct investment, the establishment of a joint venture, contract manufacturing and a toll manufacturing model.

Another focus of the talks was the potential to export products manufactured in Uzbekistan to markets in other Central Asian countries.

Following the meeting, the Agency plans to send BASF project teasers covering 20 types of import-substituting products recommended for development in Uzbekistan.

BASF plans to review the proposals together with its regional and global business units. Following the assessment, projects that correspond to BASF’s areas of activity will be identified.

For initiatives that attract the company’s interest, separate technical negotiations are expected to be held to further develop the projects.
