Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov met in Tashkent on May 7 with Austria’s Federal Minister for European and International Affairs Beate Meinl-Reisinger and Federal Minister of the Interior Gerhard Karner to discuss the further development of bilateral relations and expanded practical cooperation.

The talks focused on strengthening political dialogue between Uzbekistan and Austria, as well as expanding trade, economic, and investment ties. Both sides noted mutual interest in deepening engagement across multiple sectors.

Special attention was given to cooperation in security, migration, education, tourism, green energy, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges. Participants emphasized the importance of Austrian expertise and technology in implementing joint initiatives.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on current international and regional issues of mutual interest.

The negotiations continued a series of high-level contacts between Uzbekistan and Austria and confirmed the readiness of both sides to further deepen cooperation.

Following the talks, Saidov announced the signing of several bilateral documents.

According to him, the sides agreed to update the legal framework governing taxation, migration, and diplomatic relations. In particular, the parties signed a protocol and an additional protocol amending the convention on the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income and property.

They also reached agreement on a partnership arrangement on migration and mobility, as well as a deal exempting holders of diplomatic passports from visa requirements.

Saidov said the agreements are aimed at expanding practical cooperation, strengthening mutual trust, and creating conditions for new joint initiatives in economic and humanitarian areas.
