Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan and Austria have signed a series of agreements covering taxation, migration cooperation and diplomatic arrangements during a business forum held in Tashkent on 7 May, according to the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan.

The event was organized jointly by the ministry and the Austrian Embassy and brought together around 100 representatives of the business communities of both countries, as well as senior officials.

The Austrian delegation included Federal Minister for European and International Affairs Beate Meinl-Reisinger and State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance Barbara Eibinger-Miedl.

During the forum, the Uzbek side presented the country’s investment potential and outlined priority areas of economic development. Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Shohruh Gulamov highlighted key opportunities for expanding cooperation, emphasizing Uzbekistan’s interest in attracting Austrian investment into industry, energy and high-tech sectors.

As part of the forum, the two sides exchanged a number of bilateral documents. These included agreements on avoiding double taxation, developing migration partnership, and introducing a visa-free regime for diplomats. The agreements are seen as a step toward simplifying business and institutional contacts between the two countries.

Participants also reviewed ongoing joint projects involving Austrian companies, including Lasselsberger, Doppelmayr, AME International, Bowas and Bauer. These initiatives are being implemented with financial participation from Raiffeisen and UniCredit. The priority areas of cooperation include mining, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and green energy.

The forum concluded with B2B and B2G meetings, where representatives of the private sector and government institutions discussed specific initiatives and began preparing roadmaps for the implementation of new joint projects.
