Uzbekistan and Afghanistan to Expand Pharmaceutical Cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On June 19, 2026, an official meeting was held between Abdullah Azizov, Director of the Agency for the Development of the Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and a delegation from the Afghanistan National Food and Drug Authority (AFDA).
The visit of the foreign regulators was aimed at studying the production potential of Uzbekistan and establishing direct channels for sectoral interaction.
The central topic of the negotiations was the creation of favorable conditions for the entry of Uzbek pharmaceutical enterprises into the large Afghan market.
The parties discussed in detail the algorithms for mutual recognition and optimization of drug registration processes, issues regarding the organization and conduct of GMP inspections at production sites, as well as strategic steps to significantly expand bilateral trade of specialized products.
During the visit, representatives of the Afghan delegation familiarized themselves in detail with the modern quality management systems and technological processes implemented at manufacturing plants in Uzbekistan, highly praising both the quality of the manufactured medicines and the systemic reforms being carried out in the domestic pharmaceutical sector.
In addition to trade and export issues, the partners reviewed vectors of academic and technical cooperation. Abdullah Azizov and the leaders of AFDA exchanged views on modernizing laboratory infrastructure, launching professional development programs for specialized experts, and mutually exchanging experience in inspection procedures and regulatory oversight.
Following the meetings, the sides confirmed their mutual readiness to facilitate the entry of Uzbek brands into the Afghan market and solidified their intention to maintain a regular dialogue to implement long-term, mutually beneficial projects.
