Uzbekistan Airways, China Southern Sign Codeshare Deal
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan Airways and China's China Southern Airlines have signed a codeshare agreement that will allow passengers to book flights operated by both carriers through standard reservation systems and expand air connectivity between Uzbekistan and China.
The agreement covers Uzbekistan Airways flights from Tashkent to Beijing Daxing, Guangzhou, Urumqi and Hangzhou. Passengers will also be able to purchase tickets through Uzbekistan's national carrier for China Southern Airlines flights from Beijing Daxing, Guangzhou and Urumqi to Tashkent.
Umid Khusanov, First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Uzbekistan Airways, said China remains one of the airline's key markets. He said the carrier has seen strong demand and steady passenger traffic growth since launching Tashkent–Guangzhou flights in May this year, with similar trends on routes to Beijing, Urumqi and Hangzhou.
"Partnership with China Southern Airlines will strengthen our position in the Asian market and give passengers greater flexibility and convenience when planning their journeys," Khusanov said.
Zhang Dongsheng, Deputy General Manager of the Commercial Management Committee of China Southern Airlines, said the company attaches great importance to the Uzbek market. He said cooperation with Uzbekistan Airways would strengthen the regional route network, expand the range of services offered and contribute to the further development of the Silk Road Economic Belt.
Uzbekistan Airways said it continues to develop its hub at Tashkent International Airport by expanding its presence in the Asian market. The airline said combining the route networks of the two national carriers is expected to support tourism and strengthen business and cultural ties between Uzbekistan and China.
Ticket sales for the codeshare flights will begin soon through the official Uzbekistan Airways website, the airline's mobile application, the Uzbekistan Airways Sales branch and the carrier's authorised agents.
