Uzbek IT sector provides services worth over US$1bn in 2008

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In 2008, companies operating in Uzbekistan in the field of communications and IT provided services worth 1.44 trillion soums (about US$1.024 billion, an 60% increase compared to 2007).

In all, 60% of the revenues or 864.7 billion soums (US$615m) were raised from services provided to population. This figure increased by 67.4% compared to 2007.

Compared to 2007, the volume of inter-city and international calls increased by 1.5%, correspondence by 3.5%, parcel dispatches by 11% and money transfers by 11.8%.
