Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A delegation of Uzbek farmers and entrepreneurs led by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan visited DALTEX, one of Egypt’s major agricultural companies, during a visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan said.
A notable feature of the company is its experience in effectively transforming desert areas into agricultural land. DALTEX has established an integrated production chain covering land development, cultivation, storage, sorting, packaging and export of agricultural products.
The company grows potatoes across nearly 22,700 hectares, cultivating more than 32 commercial varieties, and produces over 300,000 tonnes of potatoes annually. Its citrus exports exceed 50,000 tonnes.
During the visit, the Uzbek farmers paid particular attention to the company’s approaches to organizing agriculture under conditions of water scarcity.
In particular, the delegation studied Center Pivot irrigation technologies for field crops and drip irrigation in horticulture, as well as methods for efficient water use and increasing yields.
The delegation also showed strong interest in the process of maintaining product quality and preparing it for export. The company includes seven sorting and packaging centers and five cold-storage facilities.
Following the visit, the sides discussed adapting Egypt’s experience to Uzbekistan’s arid and desert regions, introducing water-saving technologies and developing practical cooperation with DALTEX in the agricultural sector.
