Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from Uzbekistan led by Deputy Chairman of the Tourism Committee S. Bobokalonav has visited the Val Thorens ski resort in France to study international best practices in mountain tourism management.

Located in the French Alps, Val Thorens is one of the largest and most prestigious ski resorts in the world. Established in 1971, it forms part of the Les 3 Vallées ski area and is considered a major international winter tourism destination.

The region features more than 600 kilometers of ski slopes, including over 140 kilometers directly within the Val Thorens zone, designed for skiers of all levels, from beginners to professionals.

According to the resort’s general director Jérôme Grellet, the average daily number of visitors during the winter season ranges from 20,000 to 30,000 people, while annual attendance reaches around 2 million visits. The ski season typically runs from late November to May, providing a long operational period for tourism activity.

The development model of Val Thorens is based on a public-private partnership approach, where government authorities are responsible for infrastructure planning and territorial development, while private companies manage hotels, services, and tourism operations.

During the visit, the Uzbek delegation examined the resort’s centralized operational management system, mechanisms for regulating tourist flows, safety standards, and key components of the integrated tourism ecosystem. Particular attention was given to the integration of accommodation, transport, leisure, and service infrastructure into a unified system.

Officials noted that the experience gained from the visit could contribute to the development of Uzbekistan’s tourism sector, the introduction of modern resort management models, and the expansion of international cooperation in tourism.
