UN, SCO to sign joint declaration in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) -- The United Nations (UN) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) are planning to sign a joint declaration, Kazinform reported quoting the Uzbek Deputy Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Islamov.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will pay a visit to Uzbekistan on 4-5 April and within the visit he will ink declaration with the SCO Secretary General Muratbek Imanaliev.

Deputy Minister said: “We did all to sign the joint declaration between the SCO and the UN by the two secretary generals in Tashkent.”

He said the document will open new opportunities for cooperation between two organizations in all directions, including in security issues. He added that the special attention in the declaration was paid to combating terrorism.

As earlier reported, on 18 December 2009, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution "Cooperation between the United Nations Organization and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization" with consensus.
