Turkmenistan President and Uzbek Deputy PM Discuss Strategic Partnership

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjayev, who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the regular meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Uzbek Commission on Trade-Economic, Scientific-Technical, and Cultural Cooperation. At the beginning of the conversation, the Uzbek vice-premier conveyed warm greetings from the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the head of state and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

During the negotiations, Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that holding the 19th meeting of the bilateral Intergovernmental Commission will provide a serious impetus to the progressive development of interstate interaction.

The head of Turkmenistan emphasized that Ashgabat attaches priority importance to strengthening good-neighborly relations with Tashkent, which are built on the principles of equality, mutual trust, and respect.

The parties paid special attention to the dynamics of trade and economic ties. The energy sector, the transport and logistics system, agriculture, and mutual trade were identified as the key and most promising vectors of long-term partnership. The meeting participants also reviewed opportunities for the joint practical implementation of large-scale infrastructure and investment projects of regional importance.

As part of the analysis of trade and economic indicators, it was noted that the launch of the Turkmen-Uzbek border trade zone in November last year has already demonstrated its effectiveness, providing additional growth in bilateral trade turnover volumes.

In addition, the president of Turkmenistan placed separate emphasis on the importance of deepening cultural and humanitarian dialogue, speaking in favor of holding regular joint events and meetings between representatives of the creative intelligentsia of the two countries.

Following the audience, the sides confirmed their unchanging commitment to the comprehensive expansion of the strategic partnership for the benefit of the fraternal peoples.
