TRACECA Proposes Transport Corridor Digital Transformation Center in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Intergovernmental Commission for the development of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor (TRACECA) has launched an initiative to establish a specialized Center for Digital Transformation and Integration into Transport Corridors in Uzbekistan.

The initiative was announced during a panel session dedicated to the development of the Trans-Caspian (Middle) Corridor by the Secretary General of TRACECA and Deputy Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan, Jasurbek Choriev.

Today, the program unites 14 member states, forming a single multimodal platform to synchronize rail, road, river, sea, and air transport between Europe and Asia. Uzbekistan serves as a key link in this logistical chain, actively investing in transport infrastructure both domestically and internationally along the route stretching from the Chinese border through the Caspian and Black seas to the European Union.

A powerful driver of integration was the signing of the agreement on a single TRACECA transit permit by Uzbekistan and other participants in May 2026. As a result of the coordinated actions of the member countries, the standard delivery time for cargo between Asia and Europe has already decreased from 18 days in 2024 to 15 days at present.

The dynamics of cargo traffic along the Middle Corridor demonstrate steady growth, with transport volumes in 2025 practically doubling compared to 2023. At the same time, the structure of the cargo has shifted; while oil and gas previously dominated, a sharp increase in container and dry cargo is now being recorded.

In particular, the transshipment of fertilizers through the ports of Aktau and Turkmenbashi has nearly doubled, and grain transportation volumes have risen substantially. To enhance the transparency and predictability of the route, the Trans-Caspian Corridor Efficiency Index is currently being implemented to evaluate transit times, costs, reliability, and capacity utilization.

The proposed Center for Digital Transformation is designed to become a unified tool for standardizing international transport and introducing an end-to-end digital document recognized by all countries along the corridor. TRACECA is ready to assist in developing the center's roadmap, establishing a border crossing optimization laboratory, testing artificial intelligence systems, and implementing UN data exchange standards.

Jasurbek Choriev emphasized that a critical condition for success is the full integration of customs authorities into digital procedures, alongside the political will of states to create a unified, seamless digital product rather than fragmented commercial solutions. TRACECA leadership is currently negotiating with international financial institutions to attract investments to this project.
