Teen Detained in Tashkent Crypto Assets Case

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Law enforcement officers in Tashkent's Yunusabad district have detained a 17-year-old on suspicion of illegally trading crypto assets worth US$578,000, or 6.93 billion soums.

The Main Department of Internal Affairs of Tashkent said the suspect was detained as part of an investigation.

According to the department, the teenager told investigators that he had been engaged in the illegal trading of crypto assets using specialised equipment and software.

During a search of his residence, law enforcement officers seized a laptop, a mobile phone, two bank cards and an all-in-one computer. The items were added to the case as evidence.

A criminal case has been opened under Article 278-8 of Uzbekistan's Criminal Code, which provides for liability for violations of legislation governing the circulation of crypto assets.
