Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Tashkent city administration has announced plans for the comprehensive development of the central part of the capital, focusing on modernizing pedestrian infrastructure and creating safe public spaces. The project will cover Sayilgoh Street, known as Broadway, as well as the adjacent square, green areas, and pedestrian access routes.

According to the city authorities, the area is one of the capital’s most recognizable pedestrian zones, traditionally serving as a hub for active street life with artists, musicians, and residents.

Due to heavy pedestrian traffic, the project will introduce modern solutions aimed at improving order and ensuring the sustainable development of the area.

The plan includes renovation of road and sidewalk surfaces, improvement of pedestrian routes, and creation of a barrier-free environment. It also involves landscaping Broadway and surrounding areas, expanding irrigation and greenery systems, installing benches, waste bins, lighting, and small architectural elements, as well as reconstructing fountains.

Special attention will be given to regulating signage and advertising structures in line with a unified design code, removing illegal installations, and bringing trade activities into compliance with established requirements. The project also includes the introduction of video surveillance and monitoring systems in public spaces.

The administration stressed that the concept will take into account proposals from residents and professional communities. At the same time, the open character of the urban environment and the presence of creative professionals will be preserved, integrating their activities into the renewed space.

Existing green plantings are currently being assessed by specialists. In addition, the project provides for the planting of at least 1,000 new trees, shrubs, and ornamental plants.
