Tashkent Restricts Traffic After Road Collapse on Glinka Street

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Traffic has been temporarily restricted on Glinka Street in Tashkent’s Yakkasaray district after the road surface was damaged and a section of the roadway collapsed following a loud bang, the Tashkent city administration and Veolia Energy Tashkent said.

City services have placed the situation under special control. Relevant specialists are working at the site to determine the cause of the incident, address its consequences and carry out restoration work.

According to eyewitnesses, the collapse may have been caused by damage to a heat pipeline. Veolia Energy Tashkent said an emergency repair team and company specialists were promptly dispatched to the site.

Company employees, together with emergency response services, are investigating the circumstances and causes of the incident. No leaks have been detected so far.

One person sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident and received timely medical assistance.

Drivers have been urged to take the temporary traffic restriction into account when planning their routes and to use alternative roads where possible.

The Tashkent city administration said all circumstances surrounding the incident are being established. Additional information on the causes and measures being taken will be provided as verified and confirmed data becomes available.

Veolia Energy Tashkent also said detailed information would be provided following an operational inspection of the site.
