Romanian ambassador congratulates Uzbekistan on independence
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Romanian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Uzbekistan Daniel Cristian Ciobanu has sent a congratulatory message to the people of Uzbekistan on the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence, according to a message circulated by the ambassador on 29 August 2026.
In his address, the diplomat said that Uzbekistan had made significant achievements during its years of independence and had established a worthy position on the international stage.
The ambassador also recalled his own symbolic public diplomacy initiatives marking previous anniversaries of Uzbekistan’s independence. Ahead of the 32nd anniversary, he recorded a video congratulatory message on the Pulatkhan Plateau at an altitude of 2,823 meters. For the 31st anniversary, he climbed the 4,083-meter Mount Hazrat Sultan in Kashkadarya Region, while ahead of the 30th anniversary of independence, he climbed the 3,309-meter Greater Chimgan.
Ciobanu said he had been awarded the commemorative badge “Ўзбекистон Республикаси мустақиллигининг 35 йиллиги”, established by a decree of the President of Uzbekistan, describing the award as a sign of high trust.
He thanked Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for creating conditions for the successful fulfillment of his diplomatic mandate and said he considered the country’s citizens, rather than its natural resources, to be its main asset.
The ambassador also spoke about the development of cooperation between Romania and Uzbekistan, noting active political and diplomatic dialogue between the two countries. Romania and Uzbekistan marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations on 6 October 2025.
According to Ciobanu, data from the National Statistics Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan show significant growth in trade turnover between the two countries in recent years. He added that strengthening cooperation with Uzbekistan is among Romania’s priorities in Central Asia.
At the end of his message, the ambassador congratulated the people of Uzbekistan on Independence Day and wished them peace, prosperity, good health and success.
