Tashkent Power Supply Fully Restored After Substation Failure
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uninterrupted power supply has been fully restored to all categories of consumers in the capital of Uzbekistan following a major technological failure at the Yuksak substation.
According to an official statement by the Ministry of Energy, emergency restoration services completed the elimination of the consequences of the incident and reconnected the final residential houses and commercial facilities to the grid at 03:56 on 29 June 2026.
The emergency situation occurred the previous evening, 28 June 2026, at 20:45 at the Yuksak substation located in the Yakkasaray district of the capital. According to preliminary analytical data from the relevant ministry, the primary cause of the incident was a technical fault in the 110 kV high-voltage electrical network.
This technical glitch triggered an automatic chain reaction that led to the emergency shutdown of two modern gas turbine units at the Tashkent Thermal Power Center, which have a combined generating capacity of 60 MW.
The sudden technological shutdown temporarily left approximately 55,000 consumers without electricity. The outage zone covered residential quarters and administrative facilities in the Yakkasaray, Chilonzor, Mirabad, and Uchtepa districts of Tashkent, and also affected consumers in the Zangiata district of the Tashkent region. In addition, temporary power interruptions were recorded at certain small industrial enterprises in the area.
The scale of the incident affected approximately 6.2% of the total number of registered subscribers in the capital, which baseline numbers 889.2 thousand units, including residents and legal entities.
The elimination of the consequences of the failure and the restoration of power were carried out by specialists from the Tashkent branch of the National Electric Grids company on a round-the-clock basis and executed strictly in stages.
First, at 21:50, voltage was restored to consumers with a total load of 90 MW in the Yakkasaray, Chilonzor, and Uchtepa districts.
Following this, after midnight on 29 June 2026, power supply was returned to consumers in the Mirabad district at 00:08, and one minute later the next group of consumers in the Yakkasaray and Chilonzor districts was energized. At 00:25, energy workers resumed power supply to the Chilonzor and Zangiata districts.
The final targeted emergency technical operations to connect the remaining local load of 2 MW were carried out in the Chilonzor district until four in the morning, after which the regional energy supply system returned to standard operational parameters.
