Sherzod Temirov Waives Salary to Support Teammates
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan national team forward Sherzod Temirov has decided to отказаться from receiving his salary at Iraqi football club Erbil, redirecting potential payments in favor of local players, according to sports official Alisher Nikimbaev, who shared the information on social media.
According to Iraqi journalists, Erbil FC is currently facing serious financial difficulties, with players reportedly not receiving salaries for around four months. At the same time, payments allegedly continued for foreign players, including Temirov, who is the league’s top scorer.
In April, the Uzbek striker reportedly refused further salary payments, suggesting that the club allocate available funds to settle outstanding debts owed to local players.
His position is explained by the fact that, as a foreign player, he can appeal to FIFA in case of contractual violations, while domestic players do not have the same level of international protection.
As a result, Temirov’s decision, as noted by Nikimbaev, was driven by a desire to support teammates who are in a more vulnerable position due to the club’s financial difficulties.
