Sergeli to construct BRT line in 2027
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Construction of a 5.5-kilometer dedicated Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor is planned to begin in the Sergeli district of Tashkent in 2027. The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, announced this during a meeting dedicated to the socioeconomic development of the district.
According to the plans, the new line will run along Yangi Sergeli Street and will be integrated with the BRT corridor on Shota Rustaveli Street, which was put into operation in the autumn of 2025.
During the meeting, the head of state also instructed that measures be taken to improve road safety on the main highways of the Sergeli district, which have a total length of 23 kilometers. In particular, the plans provide for the installation of 455 smart traffic lights, the modernization of 150 bus stops, and the creation of 10,000 parking spaces.
Special attention was paid to the development of the transport infrastructure in the southern part of the capital. The president emphasized the need to accelerate the construction of a new overpass on the Tashkent Ring Road, which is intended to provide a more convenient connection between the Sergeli, Bektemir, and Yangihayot districts and other parts of the city.
In addition, measures to improve city navigation for foreign tourists were discussed at the meeting. Responsible agencies were instructed to organize convenient routes between historical sights, parks, markets, tourist mahallas, cafes, and restaurants.
It is also planned to install city route maps for tourists at airports, railway stations, bus stops, and metro stations, as well as to provide them with a free mobile navigation application.
Earlier, in March of this year, the Tashkent Traffic Management Center reported plans to create four BRT lines in the capital, including the route along Yangi Sergeli Street. The total length of the new dedicated bus corridors is expected to exceed 16 kilometers.
