Samarkand to Host IPU Young Parliamentarians Conference

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on 20 July 2026 setting out measures to organise international events in Samarkand jointly with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The document confirms that the 12th IPU Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians will be held from 4 to 6 September 2026 after Uzbekistan's proposal was endorsed by the IPU.

The conference will be held alongside the 3rd Global Forum on Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, organised by the Parliamentary Commission for Monitoring the Implementation of the National Sustainable Development Goals through 2030. In addition, a Sustainable Development Month will take place in Uzbekistan in August. Both flagship events will be hosted at the Silk Road Samarkand tourist complex.

An organising committee has been established and will be co-chaired by Senate Chairperson Tanzila Narbayeva, Legislative Chamber Speaker Nurdinjon Ismoilov and Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov. The committee also includes senior ministers, the governors of Samarkand Region and Tashkent, and the heads of the National Television and Radio Company and the Yuksalish movement. The Youth Affairs Agency has been appointed as the working body, while the state enterprise InterForum will serve as the general operator.

Foreign participants attending the conference and forum will receive visas free of consular fees and, where necessary, visas will be issued directly at the international airports of Tashkent and Samarkand.

About 500 foreign delegates are expected to attend. Hotel accommodation is being arranged in Tashkent and Samarkand, while dedicated green corridors and additional passport control booths will be established at airports and railway stations.

The Ministry of Digital Technologies has been instructed to launch an event website in Uzbek, Russian and English by 1 August 2026, including online registration for international participants. The venues will be equipped with simultaneous interpretation facilities in the six official UN languages and Uzbek.

Guests will be offered a cultural programme featuring tours of Samarkand and, at the request of delegations, other historic cities in Uzbekistan. A special photo album titled "Samarkand – A Platform for Youth Diplomacy" will also be prepared.

The costs of organising the events will be financed from the reserve funds of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Samarkand regional administration, the State Youth Policy Support Fund and other sources permitted under the law.

Following the conference, a documentary film and a special brochure summarising its outcomes are planned.
