Rosatom to Expand Cooperation with Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom is ready to transfer a wide range of competencies to Uzbekistan in non-energy areas, including nuclear medicine, scientific research and applied technologies, according to CEO Alexey Likhachev.

He said that during earlier discussions on bilateral cooperation, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed the preparation and signing of a roadmap for non-energy cooperation. The document has since been agreed, and the parties have reported on its implementation.

Likhachev noted that one of the key areas of cooperation is nuclear medicine, including the development and production of radiopharmaceuticals used for both diagnostics and treatment of various diseases.

He stressed that modern nuclear technologies are applied not only in oncology, but also in cardiology and other medical fields, enabling more precise diagnostics and effective therapy.

Other areas of cooperation include scientific research, materials science, the development of research reactors, and the use of irradiation technologies in agriculture.

He also highlighted so-called “atom-inspired” technologies—solutions that are not directly related to nuclear energy but are derived from nuclear industry expertise and applied across various high-tech sectors.

According to Likhachev, these directions could be developed within a future nuclear cluster in Uzbekistan, which he said may become a hub for specialists and contribute to the training of a new generation of Uzbek nuclear professionals.
