Robakhon Makhmudova Elected Supreme Court Chairwoman
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Kengash of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan has elected Robakhon Anvarovna Makhmudova as chairwoman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The matter was reviewed at a meeting of the Kengash of the Senate in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Constitutional Law "On the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan." The candidacy of Robakhon Makhmudova was submitted by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Following the discussion, a resolution was adopted to elect Makhmudova to an indefinite term as a judge and to the position of chairwoman of the Supreme Court for a term of five years.
The personnel decision was made following the release from office of Supreme Court Chairman Bakhtiyor Islomov, who had headed the country's highest judicial body since August 2022.
Prior to her new appointment, Robakhon Makhmudova had served as chairwoman of the Adolat Social Democratic Party since January 2024. She previously participated in the 2023 extraordinary presidential election as a candidate from the party, receiving 4.43 percent of the vote.
