President Visits Dustlik Mahalla During Bekabad Trip
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Dustlik mahalla in Bekabad during a working trip to review the results of redevelopment along the Hos Yoz Canal and the area's infrastructure improvements.
According to officials, the previously neglected canal embankment has been transformed into a modern public space within walking distance of residential neighbourhoods. Under the area's comprehensive development master plan, a 3-km pedestrian walkway, 5.4 km of protective fencing and two bridges have been built.
The waterfront is now home to 27 retail and service businesses, creating 167 permanent jobs. During the visit, the president spoke with young people taking part in sports activities.
Mirziyoyev then visited the 28-hectare Dustlik mahalla, which includes 33 apartment buildings, a private preschool, a football field, 16 sports and children's playgrounds, and a library.
This year, entrepreneurs invested 1.1 billion soums to open 10 service businesses and one catering establishment in the mahalla, creating 25 new jobs.
Residents also initiated the construction of the Vatanparvar Park, which features military equipment displays and service facilities.
Using funds from the Initiative Budget programme, the mahalla also established the Bekabad City Museum. In addition, a summer wooden pavilion was built for labour veterans and senior residents to host meetings, roundtable discussions and educational events.
The president reviewed the completed projects and met with mahalla representatives and labour veterans. He said all development projects should improve people's quality of life and deliver tangible benefits to residents of cities and mahallas.
After completing his programme in Bekabad, Mirziyoyev returned to Tashkent.
